While digging through my archives I found these photos I took about two and a half years ago at my great uncle’s 90th birthday. I still like the series so I thought I’d put them up here. It was a lovely day with my extended family and some regional quirks.

IMG_1018blogYep, got caught.

IMG_1019blogMy great uncle is very fond of music and helped founding the first music school in the area. He also always was very involved in the local brass band. I don’t know about your area, but where I come from every village has their own brass band. So the local brass band dropped by for a birthday serenade. My great uncle discussing the set with the bandmaster.

IMG_1021blogMy sister being cheeky, my great uncle listening to the music. Still can’t get over the fact that he’s 90 years old, he looks so much younger.

IMG_1027blogLots of shake hands.

IMG_1033blogAnd more music.

IMG_1035blogIf you make it to 90 years, you get to conduct the brass band.

IMG_1045blogEven the local police commander dropped by and brought a gift.

IMG_1046blogListening to the speech. Not easy to impress.

IMG_1047blogAnd some more music.

IMG_1051blogMy great uncle believes in the importance of kids getting in contact with music, so he was very happy about all the kids in the brass band.

IMG_1054blogMy dad discussing a piece of music with one of the brass band girls.

IMG_1057blogHaving done their duty, time for food, drinks and party. Typical brass band.

IMG_1060blogI’m repeating myself – brass bands!

IMG_1065blogOne last speech (it was a very short one), and then food.

IMG_1075blogFamily time. My brother, my dad and my great uncle.

Lovely memories of meeting my extended family. And wishing my great uncle many more happy years to come.

My Dad turned 65 this year in spring. He invited family and friends for a birthday/retirement party. There was music, food, wine, great people, a recital of some quite fruity Mozart letters and lots of laughter, but see for yourself.

I had hestitated to put the pictures up on here, as it’s all family and friends on the pictures – but then it isn’t any different from other entries with family and friends I’ve done before, and photography is always personal in one or another way… Plus I liked how the series turned out. So, enjoy!

Street, finally…

It’s been ages since my last entry…

This entry has been sitting around unpublished for a while now, as I had to withhold a few pictures I had entered into a street photography contest. I didn’t want to take them out of the set, so all of it had to wait a little longer. But now I’m good to go, so here are a few shots from the last months (yes, some of them date back that long).

Still cold and wintery when I shot these kids.

First signs of sun here.

I met up with Klara. We went for a photographic stroll through Vienna. Felt great to get going again!

Klara tiptoeing around trying to get a shot of the janitor lady.

Having a break. Me inspecting Klara’s camera (shot by Klara).

Caught Klara taking notes… 😉

Right after seeing Severin’s exhibition at eigensinnig.

Unloading II.

Max testing my 50.

And me testing his 28. Wide, let me tell you, sooo wide!

Back to my trusty 35.

Favourite frame I.

The zebra. Favourite frame II.

More to come soon!

Before I leave to the UK for one week, a series I took a few weeks ago when I was in Bregenz, Vorarlberg. There’s an amazing place right in the middle of the Bregenzer Ach, a river that flows into the Lake of Constance. It’s a monolith that consists of sandstone, left there since the last ice age. The water of the river has over millenia shaped this rock to look a bit like flowing water itself – soft curves, ripples and big waves. This is how the place looks like:

Years ago I have tried and failed to capture this place, now I gave it another try. I quite liked the outcome, exept for the fact that I messed up one of the rolls while developing, which bugs me, as I really liked one or two of the pictures.  But for the rest – here you go, I hope you enjoy!

And here is one of the messed up negatives…

It’s a wonderful place, so if you ever happen to be in the area, go and have a look!

Films: Trix 400 & Agfa APX 100 both in Rodinal 1+50.

Last week my sister opened her own hairdressers salon. I was not the official photographer, but nonetheless I took my cameras with me and snapped a few pictures, as it was a quite special moment for all of us – for my sister as the salon was the result of hard work and dedication in the last few years, and for me as I was so proud of her and what she has achieved.

Started with some digital pictures… The salon was prepared for the party.

Last finishing touches.

My sister being a bit nervous just shortly before the first people arrived.

First people already here, my mum talking to a friend of her.

A pink buddha for good spirits in the shop.

My sister’s boyfriend calling attention for the speech.

…and applause.

Cute expressions!

Youngest visitor! Isn’t she cute?!

Booking dates for a new haircut. Never forget about the business, even on a party!

Was not really in the mood for my Canon, so I switched to rangefinder and film. Messed up the exposure a little bit (plus my laptop is on the verge of dying – means it developed a life on it’s own and changes the brightness of the screen, which I can’t do anymore – even harder to tell how the negative scans look on screens), but still some nice pictures in the end. Ilford Delta 3200. My brother and my sister posing for me.

More conversations.

Spotted the photographer!

Family affairs.

Calling a taxi.

Money, money, money!

So if you ever happen to be in the west of Austria and you are in need of a haircut, look out for my sister’s salon (“Perfect Hair & Make-up”).
